Prayers for the week of January 26, 2013
Heavenly Father, you still bring glory to the nations, revealing to us the Christ in the same manner You did when He walked the earth - with the message of repentance and forgiveness and the coming kingdom of heaven. Grant us hearts of faith that trust in Christ's merit and in Your mercy. Lord, in Your mercy: hear our prayer.
We pray for Your Church, that through the study of Your Word and submission to it, the pastors and people of Your congregations would not be divided because of false teaching and error, but united in the same mind and doctrine as we all live under the Cross of Christ and together confess Him throughout the world. Lord, in Your mercy: hear our prayer for those contending with their ongoing affliction, that our Lord would grant them His daily strength and patience and kindly sustain their faith in His love and promises;
Receive, O Father, our thanks for delighting in the prayers of Your people. Be gracious to us, good Lord, and answer us according to Your promise and will, through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen.

A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord's Prayer: "Our Father, who art in heaven"
In the Name of the Father and of (+) the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. O Lord, Almighty God, You graciously gave Your only-begotten Son over to death that we sinners might believe that You are 'Our Father' and we are your children, so that with all boldness and confidence each Christian may ask of you as dear children ask of their dear father. To that end, lend Your fatherly ear to my petitions:
* For the ill, suffering, injured: As a father is ever faithful at the bedside of his ailing children, so also be 'Our Father' in caring for those who are ill, injured, or hospitalized, those who are contending with chronic illness or infirmities including Phil Sloane*, Connie Block*, Richard June*, Pam Covey*, Ramona Johnson*, Kim Baszk, Susan Ail, Cindy Gillespie, and Sean Brown, a former member and son-in-law of member Jan Sjurseth* while he contends with recent complications from diabetes.
* Bless Calvary shut ins Irma Martin*, Velda Miller*, Florence Mitchell*, and Margaret Joseph.
* For the anxious, lonely: As a father brings courage to his trembling children, so also be 'Our Father' in giving strength to those who prepare for surgery or await test results and those who are otherwise anxious or lonely (including Joe Hibbs and Anne Ripsom).
* For the mourning: As a father comforts his children, so also be 'Our Father' in wiping every tear from the eye of those who mourn the death of loved ones (including Dan Hoppman). Comfort them with the certainty of the resurrection and the promised inheritance of all who are children of the Heavenly Father.
* For the rejoicing: As a father takes pleasure in providing joys and blessings for his children, so also be 'Our Father' in hearing our thankful praises for the blessings you have bestowed on your children. With those whom you have called in Holy Baptism to be Your child, with those who celebrate anniversaries and birthdays, with those who thank you for new and restored health, and with those who celebrate any of life's blessings, we thank and praise you as 'Our Father.'
Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, who has taught your adopted children to pray, "Our Father, who art in heaven..."

Prayers for the week of January 19, 2013
Heavenly Father, with the faithful in every place we call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have been reconciled to You, and through whose name we pray for faith to see Jesus as the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, and to rely upon Him as such; and for courage to confess before others (as did John and Andrew) who Jesus is and where He may now be found to forgive-in His Word and Sacraments; Lord, in Your mercy; hear our prayer.
Whatsoever things we need, please grant to us, Most Loving Father, for the sake of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples and he lookedat Jesus as he walked by and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God!"." John1:35-36
A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord's Prayer: "For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. AMEN." In the Name of the Father and of (+) the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O Lord, You give us every reason to say, "Amen. Amen. It shall be so!" To you belongs all power and glory, forever and ever. Therefore, hear the praise that is given through an appeal to your mercy, and lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:* For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, You show your power and glory through mercy toward sinners. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially Phil Sloane*, Pam Covey*, Connie Block*, Richard June*, Ramona Johnson*, Kim Baszyk, Susan Ail, Cindy Gillespie- who suffer from affliction*; remind them of Your compassion and, according to Your will, heal Phil, Pam, Connie, Richard, Ramona, Kim, Susan and Cindy of all affliction. In all circumstances, strengthen their faith, that they might clearly confess," AMEN. "
For the anxious, lonely: O God, Yours is the kingdom. Yours is the power. Yours is the glory. Yet, we sinners so often grow anxious about the temporal trials that face us. Hear my prayer on behalf of Joe Hibbs and family; remind them that there is none other besides You who deserves all glory, and thus none other that need weaken our "AMEN." Bring Joe and his family confidence in the hour of trial, that they may take heart in Your promises, "Yes, yes. It shall be so!"*
For the mourning: O Lord, because You have all power and glory and dominion over life and death, we may rejoice in the Christian's death, even as we mourn our earthly loss. Hear my prayer on behalf of Dan Hoppmann and family, who mourn the death of Dale. Comfort them with the promise that Jesus Christ is the Resurrection and the Life - "whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live." Cheer Dan and family with such life-giving words, that they might not weep as they who have no hope, but confidently confess, "I believe in the resurrection of the dead, and thelife of the world to come. AMEN - It shall be so!"
Please bless our shut-ins: Geraldine Hagemann*, Margaret Joseph*, and Velma Maas**
For the rejoicing: O Lord, as a God of glory, You are also a Godwho delights in showering us with blessings. Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of Nicole* and Kevin Hege who today rejoice(s) at the occasion of healthy birth of daughter Zoey Margaret.Grant them a thankful heart, ever fixed on your grace through Christ Crucified, and therefore joins the eternal refrain - "AMEN. AMEN. AMEN."
Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, whose sacrificial death gives us the freedom to say, "AMEN - God's promises shall be so!", so that we may with all boldness pray, "Our Father, who art in heaven..."

Ran across some Mike Casali songs on You Tube last night. Mark had his first day at an internship in West Chicago on Thursday. He goes again for three hours on next Thursday.
Prayers for the week of January 12, 2013:
Lord God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, because You were pleased to
herald Jesus as Your Son and to send him to the cross as our substitute, You have also shown Your willingness to call us Your sons. Thus, as our dear heavenly Father, lend Your ear to our prayers. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Almighty God, We give thanks to You for all of the saints whom You kept in
their baptismal grace throughout their living and their dying. We pray that as You have granted us to be born again by water and the Spirit, so also You would faithfully preserve our life in Christ by means of Your Word and Supper, that with all Your people we might rejoice in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come; through Jesus Christ, Your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen.

Susan Ail,
Cindy Gillespie -who continue to suffer from affliction and

protect them in the one true Faith, and reassure Phil, Pam, Dale, Matt, Susan, Cindy, Ramona, that You will deliver them from their physical affliction, either through renewed health or through entrance into eternal rest.
* For the anxious, lonely: O God, even when trials and tribulations
await us, You promise to deliver us. Hear my prayer on behalf of
Dorothy Bratton*
Doris Exner*

Joe Hibbs and his parents Roxanne and Kerry
bring to them remembrance of Your Word: "In this world, you will have tribulation; but - be of good cheer! - I have overcome the world."
* For the mourning: O Lord, when it appears that the Evil One has
defeated us, Your promise to deliver us remains. Hear my prayer on behalf of

snares of the devil, You give us reasons -even in this life - to rejoice.
