Prayers for the week of May 25, 2014
Lord God, our heavenly Father, in this Easter season you grant us certainty in the good news of the crucified and risen Christ. For sure and certain faith to love You and, through Christ, keep Your commandments, Lord, in Your mercy: Hear our prayer.
-------------------------
“Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.” 1 Peter 3:21-22
-------------------------
...based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer: “For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. AMEN.”
In the Name of the Father and of (+) the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O Lord, You give us every reason to say, “Amen. Amen. It shall be so!” To you belongs all power and glory, forever and ever. Therefore, hear the praise that is given through an appeal to your mercy, and lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:
* oFor the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, You show your power and glory through mercy toward sinners. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially Richard June*, Phil Sloane*, Paul Henk*, Rose Kramer, Paula Hellman, Lisa Rud, Susan Ail- contending with illness as well as Bruce Morecraft and Janet Keller. Remind them all of Your compassion and, according to Your will, heal Richard, Phil, Paul. Rose, Paula, Lisa,, Susan, Bruce, and Janet of all affliction. In all circumstances, strengthen their faith, that they might clearly confess, “AMEN.”
· For the anxious, lonely, and unbelieving, O God, Yours is the kingdom. Yours is the power. Yours is the glory. Yet, we sinners so often grow anxious about the temporal trials that face us. Hear my prayer on behalf of Anne R, Paul W, Kevin R, Beth W, Dale O, Laurie B, and Mallory B. Teach and remind them that there is none other besides You who deserves all glory, and thus none other that need weaken our “AMEN.” Bring Anne, Paul, Kevin, Beth, Dale, Laurie, and Mallory confidence in the hour of trial, that they may take heart in Your promises, “Yes, yes. It shall be so!”
* For the mourning: O Lord, because You have all power and glory and dominion over life and death, we may rejoice in the Christian’s death, even as we mourn our earthly loss. Hear my prayer on behalf of Peg Wright* and relatives Steve and Lisa, at the death of Lisa’s mother; and Joan Rud, and Dorothy T. Comfort them with the promise that Jesus Christ is the Resurrection and the Life – “whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live.” Cheer Peg, Steve, Lisa, Joan, and Dorothy with such life-giving words, that they might not weep as they who have no hope, but confidently confess, “I believe in the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. AMEN – It shall be so!”
* For the rejoicing: O Lord, as a God of glory, You are also a God who delights in showering us with blessings. Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of Jim and Linda Hill and daily who rejoice at the pending arrival of a new grandchild and Kaylee Ruettiger at her pending graduation and recital. Grant them a thankful heart, ever fixed on your grace through Christ Crucified, and therefore joins the eternal refrain – “AMEN. AMEN. AMEN.”
Pray for thankful hearts in remembering the fallen soldiers of our land and all who have served to protect the country in which we dwell
Please bless Betty Wear*, Fern Weddle*, and Dorothy Bratton* those who are temporarily limited in their ability to attend church. Please bless as well all Widows and Widowers of Calvary.
Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Lord God, Father in heaven, You and the Son are One, One with the Holy Spirit in the glorious mystery of the Trinity and in the gracious mercy and compassion that comes from on high. Hear the prayers of the people of your pasture and the sheep of your hand:
---------------------------------------
[Jesus said:] “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.” John 10:1-4
---------------------------------------
A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer:
“And lead us not into temptation,”
In the Name of the Father and of (+) the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O Lord, You tempt no one; but we pray that you would be our advocate in times of temptation and tribulation. To that end, lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:
· For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, in your earthly ministry, you were the advocate of the blind, the lame, and all who came to you in their affliction. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially Paul Henk*, Rose Kramer- who are hospitalized and Phil Sloane*, Richard June*, Paula Hellmann (mother of Donna Leitner*), Lisa Rud, Tina Rud*, and Susan Ail who contend with serious illness; keep them from the temptation to despair and reassure them of your constant mercy and your healing hand.
· For the anxious, lonely: O God, You are the advocate of those whose anxieties need to be quieted by Your divine peace. Hear my prayer on behalf of Beth, Joe H, Anne R, Kevin R, Laurie, Mallory, and Paul W; keep them from the temptation to doubt Your will and place their hopes in self-made gods. Calm Beth, Joe, Anne, Kevin, and Paul as well as myself in the hour of trial and temptation, and encourage us through the promises of Your Word.
· For the mourning: O Lord, You promise to be our advocate, even in the face of death. Hear my prayer on behalf of The Garcia family who mourn the death of a their father and grandfather. Keep them from the temptation to question Your victory over death. Comfort Sal and his family in this time of sorrow, that they might rise from the temptation to believe death has won to rejoice in the promise that – just as Christ has been raised from the dead by Your glory, we too will walk in the newness of life.
· For the rejoicing: O Lord, we need not be tempted by the world’s allure, because You promise to bless us in all things. Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of Calvary members who rejoice at their various occasions. Grant all a thankful heart that is defended from temptation to attribute their joy to themselves or the world, and that rejoices in Your fatherly goodness.
Please protect Matthew Brener (son of Debbie*) as he travels internationally.
Please bless our Calvary shut-ins for: Geraldine Hagemann*, Margaret Joseph*, Velma Maas*, Bruce Morecraft, Phil Sloane, Richard June, and Janet Keller.

God and Father of the risen Christ, in Your Son’s appearance to the Emmaus disciples, He expounded the Scriptures and revealed Himself in the breaking of the bread. Grant us grace that we, too, may perceive Him as our Savior through His Word and rejoice to receive Him as the bread of life for the salvation of our souls in the Supper. By these gifts of Word and Sacrament, renew our piety of faith and love this Eastertide that we may grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior. Lord, in Your mercy…Hear our prayer.
