Prayers for the week of October 19, 2014
Heavenly Father, for the sake of the good order of Your creation, You have provided us with the gift of government. Grant wisdom to those who lead us, vigilance to those who protect us and compassion to those who care for Your people, especially the doctors and nurses and health care professionals who are called upon to deal with the deadly diseases which threaten us and our children. As we render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto You what is Yours, protect Your Church from those who would take from her the right to speak freely and plainly to the moral and ethical and spiritual issues of our times. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Our brothers and sisters in Christ suffering and dying from the Ebola virus in African nations; or from persecution in the Mideast;
All honor and glory are Yours, Almighty Father, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
“For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction.”
1 Thessalonians 1:4-5a

A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer
“Our Father, who art in heaven”
In the Name of the Father and of (the sign of the cross) the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O Lord, Almighty God, You graciously gave Your only-begotten Son over to death that we sinners might believe that You are ‘Our Father’ and we are your children, so that with all boldness and confidence each Christian may ask of you as dear children ask of their dear father. To that end, lend Your fatherly ear to my petitions:
* For the ill, suffering, injured: As a father is ever faithful at the bedside of his ailing children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in caring for those who are ill, injured, or hospitalized (Janice, John, Jack (friends of Jeffrey Zimmerman*) and those who contend with chronic illness or infirmities including Sue Ail a niece of Kathy Hoppmann*.
* For the anxious, lonely: As a father brings courage to his trembling children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in giving faith and strength to those who prepare for surgery or await test results and those who are otherwise anxious or lonely including my neighbor Dale, my nephew Joe, my co-worker Gabe's dad and Beth from Calvary.
* For the mourning: As a father comforts his children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in wiping every tear from the eye of those who mourn the death of loved ones (including NAME). Comfort them with the certainty of the resurrection and the promised inheritance of all who are children of the Heavenly Father.
* For the rejoicing: As a father takes pleasure in providing joys and blessings for his children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in hearing our thankful praises for the blessings you have bestowed on your children. With those whom you have called in Holy Baptism to be Your child, with those who celebrate anniversaries and birthdays (including Richard* & Valerie* Mulles 25th anniversary, Jeanette* and also Fred* Redecker who have transferred membership from St. Luke’s, Itasca, IL), with those who thank you for new and restored health, and with those who celebrate any of life’s blessings, we thank and praise you as ‘Our Father.’
* Please bless our Calvary shut-ins including Margaret Joseph*, Velma Maas*, and Irma Martin* and also those who are temporarily limited in their ability to attend church including Bruce Morecraft and Janet Keller.
* Please bless all Widows and Widowers of Calvary.
* Bless Mike Salazar of Calvary with gainful employment.
Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, who has taught your adopted children to pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”

Prayers...
Prayers for the week of September 28, 2014
Heavenly Father, at all times in life—especially in time of trial and persecution and in time of temptation—we pray that we (and all Your people) might have faith to bow the knee and acknowledge that Jesus is our Lord. Lord, in Your mercy: hear our prayer..
“Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.” Philippians 2:14-16
A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer
“And lead us not into temptation,”
In the Name of the Father and of (+) the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O Lord, You tempt no one; but we pray that you would be our advocate in times of temptation and tribulation. To that end, lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:
* For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, in your earthly ministry, you were the advocate of the blind, the lame, and all who came to you in their affliction. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially Myrtle Stade after she has been found unresponsive in her room. We commend her to God, knowing He will either grant her temporal health or eternal life; Sue Ail, David Orkfritz, Kathryn Knox, Rebecca Freese- Members and extended family members who are contending with weakness, illness or going thru treatment); Clayton Holcomb, Rose Kramer, and Peg Wright’s nephew Jace- Members and extended family with whom we give thanks for healing and renewed strength; keep them from the temptation to despair and reassure them of your constant mercy and your healing hand.
* For the anxious, lonely: O God, You are the advocate of those whose anxieties need to be quieted by Your divine peace. Hear my prayer on behalf of Anne, Dan, Vickie, Janet, Roxanne, Joe, and Dale keep them from the temptation to doubt Your will and place (his/her/their) hopes in self-made gods. Calm them in the hour of trial and temptation, and encourage them through the promises of Your Word.
* For the mourning: O Lord, You promise to be our advocate, even in the face of death. Hear my prayer on behalf of Val, Joan, and Dorothy who mourn the death of loved ones. Keep them from the temptation to question Your victory over death. Comfort them in this time of sorrow, that they might rise from the temptation to believe death has won to rejoice in the promise that – just as Christ has been raised from the dead by Your glory, we too will walk in the newness of life.
* For the rejoicing: O Lord, we need not be tempted by the world’s allure, because You promise to bless us in all things. Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of Riley and Rachel Skaggs on occasion of their wedding last week. Grant them thankful hearts that is defended from temptation to attribute their joy to themselves or the world, and that rejoices in Your fatherly goodness.
* Meenal, from India- has requested prayers that the Lord would have mercy on him as he seeks to make decisions about employment, housing, and a proper church home.
* Anna Wang- has requested prayers that God would grant her wisdom to nurture and strengthen her relationship with Brian, and that he would be converted to a true church.
* Please bless our shut-ins: Irma Martin, Velda Miller*, Florence Mitchell*, Bruce Morecraft, and Janet Keller
* Please bless all Widows and Widowers of Calvary.
These things and whatever else You know that we need, kind Father, grant us for the sake of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, in Whom we have an everlasting Advocate against all temptation, and through whom we pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”
