Odds and Ends ...

Tired of Google + and Faceplant ... think I'll keep using Blogger as long as I can ...

Whats the news? ... I'm watching "O Brother" movie in the front room with Lila and Mark while waiting for a Wise Guys pizza ... I also have some leftover ribs in the fridge as an alternative ...

Time out for a minute while I fetch a glass of volka and ice water ... ahhh ... I'm back ... You know, I like coke as a mixer more that water but I'm supposed to stay away from sugary soft drinks.

All kinds of stuff going on with work, church, and family.   I'll log in again tomorrow or Sunday to add some news.  Bye for now.

Reformation season

October 31 will celebrate the 500th anniversary of monk and college professor Martin Luther's posting of 95 thesis on a church door in Wittenberg, Germany.  Luther nor anyone else at the church that day had the slightest notion of how that small act would ultimately release overdue religious and subsequent secular pressure still in evidence today.  Solo Christe, sola fides, sola gratia.

... also ...

Lila is attending a small family reunion this week in so Mark and I will be batching it. Mark turns 26 this week, too.

Memorial Day

It's Memorial Day again ... Lila, Mark, and I are at home in Elgin.

Mark is off school for two more weeks or so.  Yesterday he finally came down with a cold that I have been suffering with for over two weeks.

Lila spent the last week working at the Lowes Hotel near Ohare at the annual Autism One conference.

As i mentioned I have been struggling with a cold for two plus weeks and am still draining a bit.

Lila trimmed fur from Leo's hindquarters this afternoon and I installed a lamp on the enclosed patio (our "porch").

Don called trying to reack Paul...I left a message on Paul's phone.

Prayers

“And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.”

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Lord, “If you would mark iniquities, O Lord, who would stand? But with You there is forgiveness, that You may be feared.” As a Father who deeply loves His children, You promise to freely forgive us as we repent of our sins. To that end, lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:
For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, without You, man has no hope for the sick to be healed or the sinner to be forgiven;  yet You have shown Your power and will to do both. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially Dorothy Bratton; comfort her with the certainty that – because her sins have been forgiven on account of Christ Crucified – she may be certain that you will provide for their temporal health and their eternal well-being, in accord with Your will.
For the anxious, lonely: O God, You promise to answer those who call upon You in their day of trouble. Hear my prayer on behalf of Roxanna, Joe, Dale, and Gary; forgive them where – in trial and tribulation – they grow weary and doubt your Word. Strengthen them through Your Word of Truth and its promises, reminding them that – because they are forgiven in Christ – nothing can separate them from Your love.
For the mourning: O Lord, You take no delight in the death of even the wicked, but desire all men to be saved, and have given Your only-begotten Son to bear the sins of all the world. Hear my prayer on behalf of John and Joyce Allyn, who mourn the death of John's father, Jack. Comfort them with the promise that we have been forgiven in Christ, so that all who die in Christ still live with Him in paradise. Comfort John and Joyce in this time of sorrow, that they would not grieve as those who have no hope, but as those to whom belongs the certain hope of “the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.” * For the rejoicing: O Lord, because You have paid the redemption price in Christ, and have forgiven all our trespasses, You also delight in giving us every blessing under heaven. Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of Ed and Elaine Taylor who today rejoice at the occasion of the birth of their grandson Evan Ross Robinson. Grant them a thankful heart that rejoices in the many blessings that flow to them as those forgiven through the blood of the Lamb.*  Also please bless Crystal as she seeks steady employment and Aimee B as Armand deals with emotional issues and a battle with cancer.

Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, in Whom we have the forgiveness of sins and, thus, the right to come to you as dear children who have been taught to pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”

2016-01-03-A Prayers

“Give us this day our daily bread.”

In the Name of the Father and of (+) the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Lord, You give daily bread to all – faithful and wicked alike – even without our prayer. Yet, we are right to pray for our daily bread, that we might learn that it comes from You as the giver of all good things and so receive it with thanksgiving. To that end, lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:

* For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, You promise that daily bread includes all our very life and health. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially Dorothy Bratton, Phil Hansen, Jill Robinson, and Kim Dorwaldt, that they may, by Your grace, be given a portion of new health, or – if it be Your will – be given faith to bear their current affliction.

* For the anxious, lonely: O God, You promise that daily bread includes all that we need to support this body and life, including defense from every evil.  Hear my prayer on behalf of Roxanna, Joe, Dale, and Gary; grant them the trust that You provide for all of life’s cares and – as part of our daily bread – see us through all of life’s trials.  Give Roxanna, Joe, Dale, and Gary the eyes of faith to see Your many blessings, daily given and renewed, even in moments of great anticipation.

* For the mourning: O Lord, as You give, so You take away. Hear my prayer on behalf of all who mourn the death of a loved ones. Comfort them with the promise that, though You have taken from them a loved one, so You continue to provide for them through Your bountiful goodness. Grant the faith which clings to the Truth that not only give us all temporal blessings, but – grace beyond grace – gave Your only begotten Son to die our death upon the cross, that we might receive – not merely daily bread – but also the eternal inheritance of heaven.

* For the rejoicing: O Lord, You give us daily bread that is beyond measure or understanding.  Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of all who today rejoice. Grant them thankful hearts that sees this blessing for what it truly is – a gift of daily bread that comes from Your hand, even as You freely give to satisfy the desire of every living thing.
Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, who has promised us that all good things come from your fatherly hand and, thus, has taught us to pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”
