Prayers for the week of July 27, 2014

* Apostles Creed
* Luther's. prayer
* Personal confession of sins
* A psalm
* Prayers of supplication for myself
* Prayers of intercession for others
* This week's Calvary prayer:

O Most gracious God, compassionate Father,  You kindly regarded mankind in his sinful condition and made us unto Yourself a treasured possession by sparing not Your own (+) Son, but redeeming all  mankind by  His precious blood.  As You withheld not even Christ, but delivered Him up for us all, teach us to live life confidently, knowing that You will give us all things needful, that – through Christ—we may, in every time of life, be more than conquerors through Him who loved us.  Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

As you sanctified the saints of old, fixing their eyes upon Christ, so sanctify us in our day that confessing the faith we too will be gathered together with all of the kingdom, and then be fully conformed to the glorified image of Your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ… Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit… Amen.

 “You are a people holy to the LORD your God.  The LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.”  Deuteronomy 7:6

..."And lead us not into temptation,” ... O Lord, You tempt no one; but we pray that you would be our advocate in times of temptation and tribulation. To that end, lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:

* For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, in your earthly ministry, you were the advocate of the blind, the lame, and all who came to you in their affliction. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially Holly Arroyo*, Don Hahn*, and John Allyn*- and all who recover from surgical procedures this past week.  Also please bless Irma Martin*, Valerie Mulles*, and David Orkfritz (brother of Missy Kovacik*), Susan Ai; keep them from the temptation to despair and reassure them of your constant mercy and your healing hand.
* For the anxious, lonely: O God, You are the advocate of those whose anxieties need to be quieted by Your divine peace. Hear my prayer on behalf of Joe Hibbs, Dorothy, & Dale; keep them from the temptation to doubt Your will and place their hopes in self-made gods. Calm Dorothy, Joe, & Dale in the hour of trial and temptation, and encourage them through the promises of Your Word.
* For the mourning: O Lord, You promise to be our advocate, even in the face of death. Hear my prayer on behalf of Joan, Dorothy, and Val, who mourn the death of loved ones. Keep them from the temptation to question Your victory over death. Comfort Joan, Dorothy, and Val in this time of sorrow, that they might rise from the temptation to believe death has won to rejoice in the promise that – just as Christ has been raised from the dead by Your glory, we too will walk in the newness of life.
* For the rejoicing: O Lord, we need not be tempted by the world’s allure, because You promise to bless us in all things. Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of all who today rejoice at various occasions. Grant them thankful heart  a that are defended from temptation to attribute their joy to themselves or the world, and that rejoice instead in Your fatherly goodness.

Please bless Missy Kovacik* as we welcome her into membership, having transferred from Good Shepherd.

Please bless Calvary shut-ins Bruce Morecraft, Phil Sloane, Janet Keller, iDorothy Bratton*, Doris Exner*, and Irene Fehrman*.

Please bless all Widows & Widowers of Calvary.

Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, in Whom we have an everlasting Advocate against all temptation, and through whom we pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven…” (+).
