Prayers...

Prayers for the week of  December 21, 2014

Father of mercy, You have kept Your promise to send a Savior from the house of David. As You gave faith to Your servant Mary that she would receive the words of the angel Gabriel with joy, so open our hearts to receive with joy the promises of salvation through Your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord;  Lord, in Your mercy:  HEAR OUR PRAYER.

Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy, through
Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God,
now and forever.  Amen.

A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer

“Our Father, who art in heaven”

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Lord, Almighty God, You graciously gave Your only-begotten Son over to death that we sinners might believe that You are ‘Our Father’ and we are your children, so that with all boldness and confidence each Christian may ask of you as dear children ask of their dear father. To that end, lend Your fatherly ear to my petitions:

* For the ill, suffering, injured: As a father is ever faithful at the bedside of his ailing children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in caring for those who are ill, injured, or hospitalized (including Norm Bunge and Connie Block, family - Sue Ail (niece of Kathy Hoppmann), Debbie Taylor (daughter-in-law of Ed and Elaine) and Mary Adams (mother of Frank Cappi).
* For the anxious, lonely: As a father brings courage to his trembling children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in giving strength to those who prepare for surgery or await test results and those who are otherwise anxious or lonely my nephew, Joe, and my niece, Roxanne.
* For the mourning: As a father comforts his children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in wiping every tear from the eye of those who mourn the death of loved ones including  Jim Loszach and his family at the death of his grandfather.  Comfort them with the certainty of the resurrection and the promised inheritance of all who are children of the Heavenly Father.
* Please bless the Widows and Widowers of Calvary as well as our shut-ins: Dorothy Bratton, Irene Fehrman, Geraldine Hagemann, Bruce Morecraft, Janet Keller. Alice Breneman and Myrtle Stade.
* For the rejoicing: As a father takes pleasure in providing joys and blessings for his children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in hearing our thankful praises for the blessings you have bestowed on your children. With those whom you have called in Holy Baptism to be Your child, with those who celebrate anniversaries and birthdays with those who thank you for new and restored health, and with those who celebrate any of life’s blessings, we thank and praise you as ‘Our Father.’

Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, who has taught your adopted children to pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”

A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer

“For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. AMEN.”

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Lord, You give us every reason to say, “Amen. Amen. It shall be so!” To you belongs all power and glory, forever and ever. Therefore, hear the praise that is given through an appeal to your mercy, and lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:

* For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, You show your power and glory through mercy toward sinners. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially Connie Block, Norm Bunge, Sue Ail, Pete (brother-in-law of Cindy Mahan), Debbie (daughter-in-law of Ed and Elaine Taylor), Linda (daughter of Eileen Halleran) all of whom suffer with cancer/illness; remind them of Your compassion and, according to Your will, heal Connie, Norm, Sue, Pete, Debbie and Linda of all affliction. In all circumstances, strengthen their faith, that they might clearly confess, “AMEN.”

* For the anxious, lonely: O God, Yours is the kingdom. Yours is the power. Yours is the glory. Yet, we sinners so often grow anxious about the temporal trials that face us. Hear my prayer on behalf of Widows and Widowers of Calvary, my nephew Joe, and my niece Roxanne; remind them that there is none other besides You who deserves all glory, and thus none other that need weaken our “AMEN.” Bring them confidence in the hour of trial, that they may take heart in Your promises, “Yes, yes. It shall be so!”

* For the mourning: O Lord, because You have all power and glory and dominion over life and death, we may rejoice in the Christian’s death, even as we mourn our earthly loss. Hear my prayer on behalf of Kim Dorwaldt and family as they mourn the death of their aunt,  Comfort them with the promise that Jesus Christ is the Resurrection and the Life – “whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live.” Cheer Kim and her family with such life-giving words, that they might not weep as they who have no hope, but confidently confess, “I believe in the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. AMEN – It shall be so!”

* For the rejoicing: O Lord, as a God of glory, You are also a God who delights in showering us with blessings. Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of Danielle Leitner (daughter of Craig & Donna) and Christopher Jaeger, as they prepare to enter the holy institution of marriage.  Grant them thankful hearts, ever fixed on your grace through Christ Crucified, and therefore joins the eternal refrain – “AMEN. AMEN. AMEN.”

* Please bless Calvary shut-ins Florence Mitchell, Betty Wear, Fern Weddle, Bruce Morecraft, Janet Keller, Alice Breneman, and Myrtle Stade

Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, whose sacrificial death gives us the freedom to say, “AMEN – God’s promises shall be so!”, so that we may with all boldness pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”

Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy; through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever...

Keep them mindful of the redeeming work of Christ Crucified, that – because of Him – all who die in the faith are guaranteed a blessed end and will live with You forever.

Prayers...

Prayers for the week of  November 30, 2014.

O Lord, heavenly Father, for rending the heavens and coming down to save us in the Person of Your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, receive our thanks and praise and sustain us in the faith and fellowship of Your Church, that we may not lose heart during earth’s days of struggle but look in faith’s confidence to that day when Christ returns in glory to receive unto Himself all who joyfully proclaim, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD.”   Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Graciously receive our prayers, O Lord.  Deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O , be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever, Amen.

“I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge—even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you—so that you are not lacking in an spiritual gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. ”   1 Corinthians 1: 4-8.

A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer

“And lead us not into temptation,”

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Lord, You tempt no one; but we pray that you would be our advocate in times of temptation and tribulation. To that end, lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:

* For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, in your earthly ministry, you were the advocate of the blind, the lame, and all who came to you in their affliction. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially Sue (niece of Kathy Hoppmann*), Debbie (daughter-in-law of Ed and Elaine Taylor*),  David (brother of Missy Kovacik*) and Donna (friend of Diane Mautone*)  - as well as all friends and family members who struggle with cancer.

* Please bless our shut-ins in especially Dorothy Bratton*, Irene Fehrman*, Geraldine Hagemann* as well as these who are temporarily limited in their ability to attend church:  Bruce Morecraft, Janet Keller, Alice, Breneman, and Myrtle Stade.  Keep all of these from the temptation to despair and reassure them of your constant mercy and your healing hand.

* For the anxious, lonely: O God, You are the advocate of those whose anxieties need to be quieted by Your divine peace. Hear my prayer on behalf of all the Widows and Widowers of Calvary; keep them from the temptation to doubt Your will and place their hopes in self-made gods. Calm them in the hour of trial and temptation, and encourage them through the promises of Your Word.

* For the mourning: O Lord, You promise to be our advocate, even in the face of death. Hear my prayer on behalf of Bob and Dolores Kramer as they mourn the death of Bob's brother, David.  Keep them from the temptation to question Your victory over death. Comfort them in this time of sorrow, that they might rise from the temptation to believe death has won to rejoice in the promise that – just as Christ has been raised from the dead by Your glory, we too will walk in the newness of life.

* For the rejoicing: O Lord, we need not be tempted by the world’s allure, because You promise to bless us in all things. Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of Nancy and Jake White who celebrate birthdays this week.   Grant them a thankful heart  that is defended from temptation to attribute their joy to themselves or the world, and that rejoices in Your fatherly goodness.

Prayers...

Prayers for the week of  November 23, 2014

Heavenly Father, Who has had immeasurable mercy upon all mankind—so deserving of the eternal fire—by sending Your Son into human flesh to atone fully for every transgression against You, and Who raised Jesus to life to herald to all the world that full satisfaction has been made; as the day of Christ’s glorious return draws near on which He will separate unto life all believers from unbelievers, we pray that through Your word readily heard by us and by Your Sacrament diligently received in faith, the Holy Spirit might strengthen us to trust firmly in the saving work of Jesus Christ alone, and be eager to love one another because You have first loved us.  Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Heavenly Father, Who has called us out and set us apart from the world to be heirs with Jesus Christ of an eternal kingdom, we thank You for this past Church Year which this week concludes, and we await with eager expectation Your continued grace upon grace in the Church Year to come.  Enable us to receive with gratitude Your kindnesses, and to watch with vigilance for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer

“And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.”

In the Name of the Father and of  the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Lord, “If you would mark iniquities, O Lord, who would stand? But with You there is forgiveness, that You may be feared.” As a Father who deeply loves His children, You promise to freely forgive us as we repent of our sins. To that end, lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:

·         For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, without You, man has no hope for the sick to be healed or the sinner to be forgiven;  yet You have shown Your power and will to do both. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially Richard June as he awaits test results after preliminary diagnosis of cancer in the lung,  Irma Martin whose weakened frame battles the flu, also please bless Sue Ail (related to Kathy Hoppmann), Rebecca (related to Richard Mulles), Debbie (daughter-in-law of Ed and Elaine Taylor), and Donna (friend of Diane Mautone),  - all of whom contend with cancer.   Also please bless our shut-ins including Florence Mitchell, Betty Wear, Fern Weddle, Bruce Morecraft, Janet Keller, Alice Breneman, and Myrtle Stade comforting them with the certainty that – because their sins have been forgiven on account of Christ Crucified – they may be certain that you will provide for their temporal health and their eternal well-being, in accord with Your will.

·         For the anxious, lonely: O God, You promise to answer those who call upon You in their day of trouble. Hear my prayer on behalf of the widows and widowers of Calvary, my nephew Joe Hibbs, my niece Roxanna, my neighbor Dale, and also Ed Batker who lost his job this week; forgive them where – in trial and tribulation – they grow weary and doubt your Word. Strengthen them through Your Word of Truth and its promises, reminding them that – because they are forgiven in Christ – nothing can separate them from Your love.

·         For the mourning: O Lord, You take no delight in the death of even the wicked, but desire all men to be saved, and have given Your only-begotten Son to bear the sins of all the world. Hear my prayer on behalf of Val Jones, Joan Rud, and Dorothy Thompson who mourn the death of  loved ones. Comfort them with the promise that we have been forgiven in Christ, so that all who die in Christ still live with Him in paradise. Comfort Val, Joan, and Dorothy in their time of sorrow, that they would not grieve as those who have no hope, but as those to whom belongs the certain hope of “the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.”

·         For the rejoicing: O Lord, because You have paid the redemption price in Christ, and have forgiven all our trespasses, You also delight in giving us every blessing under heaven. Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of Lila who rejoices to see her friend Linda Hill.  Grant them a thankful heart that rejoices in the many blessings that flow to them as one forgiven through the blood of the Lamb.

Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, in Whom we have the forgiveness of sins and, thus, the right to come to you as dear children who have been taught to pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”

A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer

“Give us this day our daily bread.”

In the Name of the Father and of (+) the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Lord, You give daily bread to all – faithful and wicked alike – even without our prayer. Yet, we are right to pray for our daily bread, that we might learn that it comes from You as the giver of all good things and so receive it with thanksgiving. To that end, lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:

·         For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, You promise that daily bread includes all our very life and health. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially Dan Johnson*, Lynn Grap (father of member Lyn Piela*), Susan Ail (niece of Kathy Hoppmann*)- and all the homebound members of our congregation including Velma Maas, Irma Martin, Velda Miller, Bruce Morecraft, Janet Keller, Alice Breneman, and Myrtle Stade, that they may, by Your grace, be given a portion of new health, or – if it be Your will – be given faith to bear (his/her/their) current affliction.
·         For the anxious, lonely: O God, You promise that daily bread includes all that we need to support this body and life, including defense from every evil.  Hear my prayer on behalf of Joe Hibbs, my neighbor Dale, my niece Roxanne, my sons Mark, Ryan, and Paul; grant them the trust that You provide for all of life’s cares and – as part of our daily bread – see us through all of life’s trials.  Give them the eyes of faith to see Your many blessings, daily given and renewed, even in moments of great anticipation.
·         For the mourning: O Lord, as You give, so You take away. Hear my prayer on behalf of Val and Dorothy who mourns the death of a loved one. Comfort them with the promise that, though You have taken from (him/her/them) a loved one, so You continue to provide for them through Your bountiful goodness. Grant them the faith which clings to the Truth that not only give us all temporal blessings, but – grace beyond grace – gave Your only begotten Son to die our death upon the cross, that we might receive – not merely daily bread – but also the eternal inheritance of heaven.
·         For the rejoicing: O Lord, You give us daily bread that is beyond measure or understanding.  Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of Lila who today rejoice(s) at the occasion of a visit from the Hill family.  Grant her a thankful heart that sees this blessing for what it truly is – a gift of daily bread that comes from Your hand, even as You freely give to satisfy the desire of every living thing.

Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, who has promised us that all good things come from your fatherly hand and, thus, has taught us to pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”

Prayers...

Prayers for the week of  November 9, 2014

Lord God, for the sake of the suffering and death of Jesus Christ, our Lord—into Whom we have been baptized and in Whose blessed Name we pray—hear our supplications.  Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, we know that You, heavenly Father, will bring with Him those who have died in Christ.  In expectation of Jesus’ immanent return, grant us faith and godliness of life, that we will be prepared on that great and awesome day.  We pray it through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever,  Amen.

A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer

“Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Lord, Your will is done even without our prayers, as Your Holy Spirit breaks and hinders all the efforts and plans of the Evil Foe. But, as we depend upon Your grace and desire Your will to be done among us also,  so we are to pray, as You have taught us. To that end, lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:

* For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, Your will is done in every hour of life. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially Dan Johnson who is recovering after surgery for a broken ankle, Nicole who is a cousin of member Kim Wyatt, Susan Ail who is a niece of Kathy Hoppmann, and also Sal Garcia who is undergoing medical tests and all others who suffer.  Please bless that they may dwell secure in awaiting your temporal deliverance or – if it be Your will – be given strength to bear their current affliction. Please strengthen Dan Johnson, Nicole, Susan Ail, and Sal and all those who suffer and keep them steadfast in Your Word until Your final deliverance, according to Your good and gracious will.

* For the anxious and lonely: O God, just as in heaven, so also on earth, Your will is perfect… and it is always accomplished for our benefit.  Hear my prayer on behalf of my neighbor and my nephew, Joe that they would be granted a patience that knows that it is Your will to hear our prayer in the day of trouble and deliver us, so that all things work together for the good of those who love You, those whom You have called according to Your purpose.

* For the mourning: O Lord, our ways are not always Your ways; Your will is beyond our understanding and will. Hear my prayer on behalf of Val Jones, Dorothy Thompson and the Widows and Widowers of Calvary, who all mourn the death of a loved one.  Comfort them with the promise that Your will is always good, that You have no desire to see the death of the wicked, and that – in accord with Your will – you bring home those whom You have called to be Your own. Grant them the faith which clings to the Truth that You willed to freely give up Your own Son in death, that death may not have victory over us.

* For the rejoicing: O Lord, Your good and gracious will gives us much reason to rejoice, as it breaks and hinders the plans of the devil and showers us with temporal and eternal blessings. Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of Bob and Anna Lindemann on their 40th wedding anniversary,
Erik & Cindy Mahan and their children Ben, Zack, and Sophie as they are welcomed into membership by transfer. Grant them a thankful heart that – in all things – gives praise to You for Your holy will and desires to be kept steadfast in the True Faith, as You will for all Your children.

Please bless our shut-ins especially Irene Fehrman, Geraldine Hagemann, Margaret Joseph, Bruce Morecraft, Janet Keller, and Alice Breneman.

Please watch over all members of Calvary who are traveling.

Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, who – by carrying out Your will upon the cross – has shown us the goodness of Your heart and, thus, has taught us to pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”

“Thy Kingdom Come”

In the Name of the Father and of (+) the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Lord, Whose Kingdom comes freely and abundantly, we sinners pray that Your Kingdom may come among us also, even today, as Your Holy Spirit works through Word and Sacrament to bring us Your Kingdom of grace and mercy, so that we would believe Your Word and lead a godly life according to it. To that end, lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:

* For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, as Your Son came preaching, “the kingdom of heaven is at hand,” so also as part of that message He came healing the sick and raising the dead. Bring comfort to those who contend with illness, to those who suffer, to the injured and the hurting, especially to Dan Johnson*, Rebecca (sister of Richard Mulles*) and Nicole (cousin of Kim Wyatt)- and all those who are sick, injured, or suffering, Marina (daughter-in-law of the Mautones*)- grant comfort in her own family’s turmoil, giving her strength and confidence in You. that (he/she/they) may know that Your Kingdom of temporal care and eternal salvation is even now  among us through the work of your Holy Spirit and your blessed Word and Sacrament.

Grant us all peace for today and tomorrow’s certain hope that Your Holy Spirit will continue to work among us and strengthen and sustain us through Your Word and Sacrament.

* For the mourning: O Lord, Thy Kingdom comes among us each and every day; especially at life’s end, are we thankful  that You have sustained Your saints through Your Spirit’s working in Word and Sacraments, that the faithful might know a blessed end. Hear my prayer on behalf of (NAME), who mourns the death of a loved one. Comfort (him/her/them) with Your mercy; point (him/her/them) to the future glory that knows in full the joys of the Kingdom that has no end. Grant (NAME) the courage to know that – as (he/she/they) continue(s) on here below, here too Your Holy Spirit will continue to sustain (him/her/them) in Word and Sacrament.

* For the rejoicing: O Lord, with what rejoicing do we welcome and celebrate the coming gifts of Your Kingdom, Your grace and mercy therein, and the many temporal blessings that flow to us because – even today – Your Kingdom comes among us. Prayers...

Prayers for the week of October 26, 2014

Lord God, whose might and kindness have no end, receive our thanks for the free gift of salvation that has been provided in the atoning blood of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ—whom You have put forth as our redemption.  Enable us to repent of our sins and to recognize the greater enormity of forgiveness that already belongs to all who have been baptized into and believe in Christ, that we might live our days as You intend for us:  in peace, joy, and certain hope of life everlasting.  Lord God, Hear our prayer, deliver, and preserve us; for to You belongs all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer

“Hallowed be Thy Name”

(The sign of the cross) In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Lord, Whose name is certainly holy in itself, we sinners pray that Your name may be kept holy among us also. Your Name is kept holy when your Word is taught in truth and purity and we, as children who call on You as ‘Our Father’ lead holy lives according to it. Help us to do this in all situations of life, O Lord. To that end, lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:

* For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, Your Word teaches in truth and purity that You have the power to heal the sick, bring relief to the suffering, mend the injured. Hear my prayer on behalf of my neighbor Dale and of Rebecca, the sister of Richard Mulles for encouragement and comfort her as she awaitss news of cancer in pending diagnoses and of John, the cousin of Rachel Knoepfel that the news of his terminal cancer would remind him of his need for salvation, that he might be brought to repentance and to rejoice in the gospel of Christ and of Sue Ail, the niece of Kathy Hoppmann for comfort  from her affliction that all would live patiently according to that Word, not despising Your promises, but faithfully waiting Your promised temporal or eternal deliverance.

* For the anxious, lonely: O God, Your Word teaches in truth and purity that we cannot add to the length of our days by worrying, nor need we – for our good is in the hands of You who care even for the birds of the air and the lilies of the field. Hear my Rebecca and John they would be granted your peace in anticipating that which lies ahead and thus dwell in Christian confidence according to Your Word.

* For the mourning: O Lord, Your Word teaches in truth and purity that You alone give and You alone take away… that, though the devil meant our death for ill, through the atoning death of Christ Crucified, the Christian’s death is but an entrance into life everlasting. Hear my prayer on behalf of all Widows and Widowers of Calvary including Joan Rud and also all others grieving for the loss of loved ones including Val Jones and also Dorothy Thompson that they would live in the joy of the Christian, even in the hour of sorrow, not despising Your promises regarding the resurrection, but holding to Your Word, which declares: “Death is swallowed up in victory… thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

* For the rejoicing: O Lord, Your Word teaches in truth and purity that You are the source of every blessing. Hear my prayer of thanksgiving with and on behalf of Doris Exner for the gift of 100 years of life and Kyle and Rachel Knoepfel for the healthy birth of Judah Matthew Knoepfel. Grant us thankful hearts, that we may rejoice in your Name at all times and desire to live according to Your Word and walk in your ways to the glory of Your Holy Name.

Prayers...

Prayers for the week of October 19, 2014

Heavenly Father, for the sake of the good order of Your creation, You have provided us with the gift of government. Grant wisdom to those who lead us, vigilance to those who protect us and compassion to those who care for Your people,  especially the doctors and nurses and  health care professionals who are called upon to deal with the deadly diseases which threaten us and our children.   As we render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto You what is Yours, protect Your Church from those who would take from her the right to speak freely and plainly to the moral and ethical and spiritual issues of our times. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.

Our brothers and sisters in Christ suffering and dying from the Ebola virus in African nations; or from persecution in the Mideast;

All honor and glory are Yours, Almighty Father, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

“For we know, brothers loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction.”
1 Thessalonians 1:4-5a
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer

“Our Father, who art in heaven”

In the Name of the Father and of (the sign of the cross) the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

* For the ill, suffering, injured: As a father is ever faithful at the bedside of his ailing children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in caring for those who are ill, injured, or hospitalized (Janice, John, Jack (friends of Jeffrey Zimmerman*) and those who contend with chronic illness or infirmities including Sue Ail a niece of Kathy Hoppmann*.

* For the anxious, lonely: As a father brings courage to his trembling children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in giving faith and strength to those who prepare for surgery or await test results and those who are otherwise anxious or lonely including my neighbor Dale, my nephew Joe, my co-worker Gabe's dad and Beth from Calvary.

* For the mourning: As a father comforts his children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in wiping every tear from the eye of those who mourn the death of loved ones (including NAME). Comfort them with the certainty of the resurrection and the promised inheritance of all who are children of the Heavenly Father.

* For the rejoicing: As a father takes pleasure in providing joys and blessings for his children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in hearing our thankful praises for the blessings you have bestowed on your children. With those whom you have called in Holy Baptism to be Your child, with those who celebrate anniversaries and birthdays (including Richard* & Valerie* Mulles 25th anniversary, Jeanette* and also Fred* Redecker who have transferred membership from St. Luke’s, Itasca, IL), with those who thank you for new and restored health, and with those who celebrate any of life’s blessings, we thank and praise you as ‘Our Father.’

* Please bless our Calvary shut-ins including Margaret Joseph*, Velma Maas*, and Irma Martin* and also those who are temporarily limited in their ability to attend church including Bruce Morecraft and Janet Keller.

*  Bless Mike Salazar of Calvary with gainful employment.

Prayers...

Prayers for the week of September 28, 2014

Heavenly Father, at all times in life—especially in time of trial and persecution and in time of temptation—we pray that we (and all Your people) might have faith to bow the knee and acknowledge that Jesus is our Lord.  Lord, in Your mercy: hear our prayer..

“Do all things without grumbling or questioning, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.”  Philippians 2:14-16

A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer

“And lead us not into temptation,”

In the Name of the Father and of (+) the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially Myrtle Stade after she has been found unresponsive in her room. We commend her to God, knowing He will either grant her temporal health or eternal life; Sue Ail, David Orkfritz, Kathryn Knox, Rebecca Freese- Members and extended family members who are contending with weakness, illness or going thru treatment); Clayton Holcomb, Rose Kramer, and Peg Wright’s nephew Jace- Members and extended family with whom we give thanks for healing and renewed strength; keep  them from the temptation to despair and reassure them of your constant mercy and your healing hand.
* For the anxious, lonely: O God, You are the advocate of those whose anxieties need to be quieted by Your divine peace. Hear my prayer on behalf of Anne, Dan, Vickie, Janet, Roxanne, Joe, and Dale keep them from the temptation to doubt Your will and place (his/her/their) hopes in self-made gods. Calm them in the hour of trial and temptation, and encourage them through the promises of Your Word.
* For the mourning: O Lord, You promise to be our advocate, even in the face of death. Hear my prayer on behalf of Val, Joan, and Dorothy who mourn the death of loved ones.
Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of Riley and Rachel Skaggs on occasion of their wedding last week.  Grant them thankful hearts  that is defended from temptation to attribute their joy to themselves or the world, and that rejoices in Your fatherly goodness.
* Meenal, from India-  has requested prayers that the Lord would have mercy on him as he seeks to make decisions about employment, housing, and a proper church home.
 * Anna Wang-  has requested prayers that God would grant her wisdom to nurture and strengthen her relationship with Brian, and that he would be converted to a true church.
* Please bless our shut-ins: Irma Martin, Velda Miller*, Florence Mitchell*, Bruce Morecraft, and Janet Keller

These things and whatever else You know that we need, kind Father, grant us for the sake of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, in Whom we have an everlasting Advocate against all temptation, and through whom we pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”

Prayers...

Prayers for the week of September 21, 2014

Lord God, Father in heaven, You desire mercy and not sacrifice, for Jesus Christ has given Himself as the sacrifice to make us acceptable to You. Therefore, have mercy upon us and, if it be Your will, find acceptable the petitions we bring. Lord, in Your mercy: hear our prayer.

These things and whatever else You know that we need, kind Father, grant us for the sake of Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

“…Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.  Go and lern what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’  For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”  Matthew 9:12-13

A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer

“And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.”

Make the sign of the cross: In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

O Lord, “If you would mark iniquities, O Lord, who would stand? But with You there is forgiveness, that You may be feared.” As a Father who deeply loves His children, You promise to freely forgive us as we repent of our sins. To that end, lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:

For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, without You, man has no hope for the sick to be healed or the sinner to be forgiven;  yet You have shown Your power and will to do both. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially  Myrtle Stade* and Clayton Holcomb* (hospitalized), Kathryn Knox (Gale Moe’s* aunt), David Orkfritz (Missy Kovacik’s brother), Sue Ail (Kathy Hoppman’s* niece), who all contend with cancer, Rebecca Freese (Richard Mulles* sister - recovering from a stroke) and Peg Wright’s* grandson, Jace, (complications following surgery); also please bless my neighbor, Dale; comfort them with the certainty that – because their sins have been forgiven on account of Christ Crucified – they may be certain that you will provide for their temporal health and their eternal well-being, in accord with Your will.

For the anxious, lonely: O God, You promise to answer those who call upon You in their day of trouble. Hear my prayer on behalf of Dan, Vickie, Anne, and Joe Hibbs forgive them where – in trial and tribulation – they grow weary and doubt your Word. Strengthen them through Your Word of Truth and its promises, reminding them that – because they are forgiven in Christ – nothing can separate them from Your love.

For the mourning: O Lord, You take no delight in the death of even the wicked, but desire all men to be saved, and have given Your only-begotten Son to bear the sins of all the world. Hear my prayer on behalf of Judy Rud, Val Jones, and Dorothy Thompson, who mourn the death of a loved one. Comfort them with the promise that we have been forgiven in Christ, so that all who die in Christ still live with Him in paradise.

Please bless our Calvary shut ins Geraldine Hagemann* , Margaret Joseph*, Velma Mass*, Bruce Morecraft, and Janet Keller.

Also please bless all widows and widowers of Calvary.

9/27/2014 - In light of recent events,  there has been a  prayer request asking that we remember in our prayers the Christians in the Middle East whom are suffering persecution and facing martyrdom for the Faith.

‘Lord Jesus Christ, in this world of unrest and strife You founded Your holy Christian Church through faith as a kingdom of peace and joy.  You have established this worldwide communion of saints in which all believers are joined by the invisible bond of faith and in which we are gathered around Your Word and Sacraments.  I thank you for making me a citizen in Your holy kingdom through the cleansing waters of Baptism.  I praise You for Your goodness because You bestowed upon me and all Your children Your Holy Spirit.  Keep the flame of faith alive in all believers through the forgiveness and peace given us through Your precious body and blood in the bread and wince of the Sacrament.  Continue to fill us with the spirit of love and peace toward one another.  Make us the salt of the earth and the light of the world.  Fulfill among us Your promise that the gates of hell shall not prevail against Your Church.  Extend Your kingdom so that Your salvation reaches to the ends of the earth.  Hear us for the sake of Your truth.  AMEN.’   (Lutheran Book of Prayer p.144). Comfort them in this time of sorrow, that they would not grieve as those who have no hope, but as those to whom belongs the certain hope of “the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.”

Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, in Whom we have the forgiveness of sins and, thus, the right to come to you as dear children who have been taught to pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”

Prayers...

Prayers for the week of September 14, 2014
Heavenly Father, because of Your merciful nature, You have forgiven our insurmountable debt of sin, ransoming us with the death of Your Son. Set us free from harboring grudges and withholding forgiveness from those who have sinned against us, that we might forgive unconditionally, even as we have been unconditionally forgiven;  . Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayers.
Into Your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
“For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself.  If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord.  So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s.”  Ephesians 14:7-8
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer
“Give us this day our daily bread.”
In the Name of the Father and of (+) the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
O Lord, You give daily bread to all – faithful and wicked alike – even without our prayer. Yet, we are right to pray for our daily bread, that we might learn that it comes from You as the giver of all good things and so receive it with thanksgiving. To that end, lend your fatherly ear to my petitions:
·         For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, You promise that daily bread includes all our very life and health. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially Rebecca Freese, the sister of Richard Mulles*; seeks recovery after a stroke.  Sue Ail, niece of Kathy Hoppmann*; Sue’s struggle with cancer has gone beyond what medicine can do – we commend her to God. David Orkfritz, brother of Missy Kovacik* continues his I fight with cancer, which seems to be in remission, Vic Kovachovich,Sr. and also my neighbor Dale that they may, by Your grace, be given a portion of new health, or – if it be Your will – be given faith to bear their current affliction.
·         For the anxious, lonely: O God, You promise that daily bread includes all that we need to support this body and life, including defense from every evil.  Hear my prayer on behalf of Anne, Vickie, Dan, and Joe; grant them the trust that You provide for all of life’s cares and – as part of our daily bread – see us through all of life’s trials.  Give them the eyes of faith to see Your many blessings, daily given and renewed, even in moments of great anticipation.
·         For the mourning: O Lord, as You give, so You take away. Hear my prayer on behalf of Val Jones, Judy Rud, and Dorothy Thompson who mourn the death of loved ones. Comfort them with the promise that, though You have taken from them a loved one, so You continue to provide for them through Your bountiful goodness.
Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of Kim Wyatt*, transfer from Good Shepherd who today rejoices.  Grant hera a thankful heart that sees he blessing for what it truly is – a gift of daily bread that comes from Your hand, even as You freely give to satisfy the desire of every living thing.

Please bless our shut-ins especially Dorothy Bratton* , Doris Exner*, Irene Fehrman*, Bruce Morecraft and Janet Keller.

Holy  Father,  for the benefit and blessing of the world, You kindly enabled Your apostles, Peter and Paul, to boldly ‘speak Your testimonies before kings’  --even Your testimonies regarding Your Son Jesus Christ our Lord.  And the world could not put them to shame.  Grant us the courage of our convictions that we, too,  would confess Christ boldly that throughout the world sinners would be numbered among your saints through faith in Jesus Christ. Lord, in Your mercy; hear our prayer.

“So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.  For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”  Romans 18:12-13

Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially  (Richard June*, Phil Sloane*, Rose Kramer, Paula Hellmann, David Orkfritz (brother of Missy Kovachic), Susan Ail- who continue in their affliction; comfort them with the certainty that – because their sins have been forgiven on account of Christ Crucified – they may be certain that you will provide for their temporal health and their eternal well-being, in accord with Your will.
* For the anxious, lonely, and unbelieving: O God, You promise to answer those who call upon You in their day of trouble. Hear my prayer on behalf of Anne, Paul, Kevin, Ryan, Mark, Laurie, Mallory, and Dale; forgive them where – in trial and tribulation – they grow weary and doubt your Word. Strengthen them through Your Word of Truth and its promises, reminding them that – because they are forgiven in Christ – nothing can separate them from Your love.
* For the mourning: O Lord, You take no delight in the death of even the wicked, but desire all men to be saved, and have given Your only-begotten Son to bear the sins of all the world. Hear my prayer on behalf of Judy, Wally, Val, and Dorothy who mourn the death of loved ones. Comfort them with the promise that we have been forgiven in Christ, so that all who die in Christ still live with Him in paradise. Comfort them in this time of sorrow, that they would not grieve as those who have no hope, but as those to whom belongs the certain hope of “the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.”
* For the rejoicing: O Lord, because You have paid the redemption price in Christ, and have forgiven all our trespasses, You also delight in giving us every blessing under heaven. Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of Jim and Linda and Mark and Shanna who all rejoice for new babies.  Grant them all thankful heart a that rejoice in the many blessings that flow to them as those forgiven through the blood of the Lamb.

* A psalm
* Prayers of supplication for myself
* Prayers of intercession for others
* This week's Calvary prayer list...

“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.  I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”  Matthew 16:18-19

* For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, You promise that daily bread includes all our very life and health. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially Richard June*, Phil Sloane*, Rose Kramer, Paula Hellmann, David Orkfritz (brother of Missy Kovachic), and Susan Ail- all who continue in their affliction, that they may, by Your gracie, be given a portion of new health, or – if it be Your will – be given faith to bear their current affliction.
* For the anxious, lonely: O God, You promise that daily bread includes all that we need to support this body and life, including defense from every evil.  Hear my prayer on behalf of Anne, Paul, Kevin, Ryan, Mark, Laurie, Mallory, and Dale; grant them the trust that You provide for all of life’s cares and – as part of our daily bread – see us through all of life’s trials.  Give them the eyes of faith to see Your many blessings, daily given and renewed, even in moments of great anticipation.
* For the mourning: O Lord, as You give, so You take away. Hear my prayer on behalf of Val, Judy, and Dorothy who mourn the death of loved ones. Comfort them with the promise that, though You have taken from them their loved ones, so You continue to provide for them through Your bountiful goodness. Grant Val, Joan, and Dorothy the faith which clings to the Truth that not only give us all temporal blessings, but – grace beyond grace – gave Your only begotten Son to die our death upon the cross, that we might receive – not merely daily bread – but also the eternal inheritance of heaven.
* For the rejoicing: O Lord, You give us daily bread that is beyond measure or understanding.  Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of Lisa Rud* – as test results indicate new cancer free health and also myself at my son Paul's  visit.  Grant both her and I thankful hearts that sees these blessings as they truly are - gifts of daily bread that come from Your hand, even as You freely give to satisfy the desire of every living thing.

Please bless the many members of Calvary who are traveling.

Please bless our temporary and long term shut-ins: Irene Fehrman*, Geraldine Hagemann*, Margaret Joseph* , Bruce Morecraft, Phil Sloane, and Janet Keller.

“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal bodies, to make you obey their passions.  Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.”  Romans 6:12-13

A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer

“Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

In the Name of the Father and of (+) the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

·         For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, Your will is done in every hour of life. Hear my prayer for those who are ill, suffering, or injured, especially  Lou Ellen Hansen*, Phil Sloane*, Richard June*, Rose Kramer*, Lisa Rud*, Paula Hellmann*, and Susan Ail, that they may dwell secure in awaiting your temporal deliverance or – if it be Your will – be given strength to bear their current affliction. Strengthen Lou Ellen, Phil, Richard, Rose, Lisa, Paula, and Susan and keep them steadfast in Your Word until Your final deliverance, according to Your good and gracious will.
·         For the anxious, lonely, and even the unbelieving: O God, just as in heaven, so also on earth, Your will is perfect… and it is always accomplished for our benefit.  Hear my prayer on behalf of Anne Ripsom, Paul White, Kevin. Ruettiger, Ryan Ruettiger, Mark White, Laurie and Mallory Boulton, and Dale next door that they would be granted a patience that knows that it is Your will to hear our prayer in the day of trouble and deliver us, so that all things work together for the good of those who love You, those whom You have called according to Your purpose.
·         For the mourning: O Lord, our ways are not always Your ways; Your will is beyond our understanding and will. Hear my prayer on behalf of Joan Rud. Val Jones, and Dorothy Thompson who mourn the death of loved ones. Comfort them with the promise that Your will is always good, that You have no desire to see the death of the wicked, and that – in accord with Your will – you bring home those whom You have called to be Your own. Grant Joan, Val, and Dorothy the faith which clings to the Truth that You willed to freely give up Your own Son in death, that death may not have victory over us.
·         For the rejoicing: O Lord, Your good and gracious will gives us much reason to rejoice, as it breaks and hinders the plans of the devil and showers us with temporal and eternal blessings. Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of all who today rejoice for any occasion. Grant them thankful hearts that – in all things – give praise to You for Your holy will and desire to be kept steadfast in the True Faith, as You will for all Your children.

Please bless those whose lives have been affected by the recent tornadoes in Nebraska and South Dakota, including brothers and sisters in Christ of The LC-MS

Please bless Calvary's temporary and long term shut ins Fern Weddle* , Dorothy Bratton*, Doris Exner*, Bruce Morecraft, Phil Sloane, and Janet Keller

Please continue to bless all Widows and Widowers of Calvary.

Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, who – by carrying out Your will upon the cross – has shown us the goodness of Your heart and, thus, has taught us to pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”

Into Your hands, heavenly Father, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in Your mercy, through Jesus Christ, our Lord… Amen.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.  And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”  Matthew 28:19-20

·         For the ill, suffering, injured: O Lord, as Your Son came preaching, “the kingdom of heaven is at hand,” so also as part of that message He came healing the sick and raising the dead. Bring comfort to those who contend with illness, to those who suffer, to the injured and the hurting, especially to Lou Ellen Hansen, Phil Sloane, Richard June, Lisa Rud, Paula Hellmann, Rose Kramer, Susan Ail who contend with illness that they may know that Your Kingdom of temporal care and eternal salvation is even now  among us through the work of your Holy Spirit and your blessed Word and Sacrament.
·         For the anxious, lonely, and even the unbelieving: O God, through the work of Your Holy Spirit, who brings to our remembrance all the promises of Christ, we know that the blessings of Your Kingdom – given freely in Your Divine Service to us – is a present comfort, a daily calm in the face of all our cares.  Hear my prayer on behalf of Anne Ripsom, Paul White, Kevin Ruettiger, Ryan Ruettiger, Mark White, Mallory Boulton, and Dale (next door) that they would be granted Your peace, which needs not worry about tomorrow, for Thy Kingdom of grace and mercy is among us this day. Grant us all peace for today and tomorrow’s certain hope that Your Holy Spirit will continue to work among us and strengthen and sustain us through Your Word and Sacrament.
·         For the mourning: O Lord, Thy Kingdom comes among us each and every day; especially at life’s end, are we thankful  that You have sustained Your saints through Your Spirit’s working in Word and Sacraments, that the faithful might know a blessed end. Hear my prayer on behalf of all widows and widowers of Calvary including Joan Rud and Laurie Boulton who mourn the death of their loved ones. Comfort them with Your mercy; point them to the future glory that knows in full the joys of the Kingdom that has no end. Grant Joan and Laurie the courage to know that – as they continue on here below, here too Your Holy Spirit will continue to sustain them in Word and Sacrament.
·         For the rejoicing: O Lord, with what rejoicing do we welcome and celebrate the coming gifts of Your Kingdom, Your grace and mercy therein, and the many temporal blessings that flow to us because – even today – Your Kingdom comes among us. Hear my prayer of thanksgiving on behalf of Jim And Linda Hill and family who today rejoice at the occasion of the birth of a baby girl.  Grant them a thankful heart that confesses Your goodness and desires to continually receive the means by which Your grace and Spirit come – pouring out  the benefits of the cross upon us… those benefits won and purchased for us by the blood and death of Christ, our Lord.

Please bless Calvary's long-term and temporary shut-ins: Velda Miller* , Florence Mitchell*, Betty Wear*, Bruce Morecraft, Phil Sloane, and Janet Keller.

Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, who has promised your kingdom to come and, thus, taught us to pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”

All honor and glory are Yours, O blessed Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, in Your holy Church, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Holy Father, on this day we praise You for sending Your promised Holy Spirit, that through the proclamation of Christ crucified and by Your Sacraments he would create faith in hearts and sustain it. "Hallowed be Thy Name”

In the Name of the Father and of (+) the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Hear my prayer on behalf of Lou Ellen Hansen*, Richard June*, Phil Sloane*, Lisa Rud, Rose Kramer, Paula Hellman, and Susan Ail that they would all live patiently according to that Word, not despising Your promises, but faithfully waiting Your promised temporal or eternal deliverance.
* For the anxious, lonely: O God, Your Word teaches in truth and purity that we cannot add to the length of our days by worrying, nor need we – for our good is in the hands of You who care even for the birds of the air and the lilies of the field. Hear my prayer on behalf of     that they would be granted your peace in anticipating that which lies ahead and thus dwell in Christian confidence according to Your Word.
* For the mourning: O Lord, Your Word teaches in truth and purity that You alone give and You alone take away… that, though the devil meant our death for ill, through the atoning death of Christ Crucified, the Christian’s death is but an entrance into life everlasting. Hear my prayer on behalf of the family of Paul Henk*, who died in Christ on Friday that they would take comfort in the joy of the Christian, even in the hour of sorrow, not despising Your promises regarding the resurrection, but holding to Your Word, which declares: “Death is swallowed up in victory… thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
* For the rejoicing: O Lord, Your Word teaches in truth and purity that You are the source of every blessing. Hear my prayer of thanksgiving with and on behalf of (NAME) at the occasion of his / her / their (OCCASION). Grant us thankful hearts, that we may rejoice in your jName at all times and desire to live according to Your Word and walk in your ways to the glory of Your Holy Name.

Please bless these Calvary members who are temporarily or permanently shut in:  Margaret Joseph*, Velma Mass*, Irma Martin*, Bruce Morecraft, Phil Sloane, and Janet Keller.

Please bless all widows and widowers of Calvary.

Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, who has taught us to hallow Your Name by praying, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”

O Gracious Lord, as we journey through this earthly life, prepare us by Your Holy Spirit for the world to come that we may, in true faith, gratefully acknowledge all the blessings You kindly bestow upon us in body and soul.  Enable us by Your Spirit’s power to know and do Your will, that it might be to Your glory and for our good.  And when our last hour comes, support each of us by Your mighty power and receive us into Your everlasting kingdom, where You live and reign with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.

Prayers for the week of June 1, 2014

Lord God, Almighty and Everlasting, in greatest compassion for the fallen race of humanity, You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, to be our redemption.  By His death and glorious resurrection He accomplished our salvation, and—after demonstrating Himself to be risen through those forty days—to our great advantage He ascended, leading captivity captive.  Grant us, Your children, faith in Him, Who is ever on Your right hand advocating and interceding for us, and under Whose feet (authority) You have placed all that could trouble us.  Lord, in Your mercy: Hear our prayer.

A Prayer based on the Petitions of the Lord’s Prayer:  “Our Father, who art in heaven”

In the Name of the Father and of (+) the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

· For the ill, suffering, injured: As a father is ever faithful at the bedside of his ailing children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in caring for those who are ill, injured, or hospitalized including Paul Henk*, Lou Ellen Hansen*, Richard June*, Phil Sloane*, Rose Kramer, Paula Hellman, Susan Ail- contending with illness, who contend with chronic illness and infirmities.
· For the anxious, lonely, and unbelieving: As a father brings courage to his trembling children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in giving strength to those who prepare for surgery or await test results and those who are otherwise anxious or lonely, or reject Your power and grace Anne R, Paul W, Kevin R, Ryan R, Mark W, and Mallory B.
· For the mourning: As a father comforts his children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in wiping every tear from the eye of those who mourn the death of loved ones including Rodney Porter at the death of his mother and Dorothy T at the death of her father figure as well as others who mourn Including the Widows and Widowers of Calvary.  Comfort them with the certainty of the resurrection and the promised inheritance of all who are children of the Heavenly Father.

· For the rejoicing: As a father takes pleasure in providing joys and blessings for his children, so also be ‘Our Father’ in hearing our thankful praises for the blessings you have bestowed on your children. With all those whom you have called in Holy Baptism to be Your child, with all those who celebrate anniversaries and birthdays, with those who thank you for new and restored health, and with those who celebrate any of life’s blessings such as D. Baker, Engvall, Cappi, Fajardo, M. Baker, Salazar- who have graduated we thank and praise you as ‘Our Father.’
Please bless our shut-ins Doris Exner*, Irene Fehrman*, and Geraldine Hagemann*.  Please bless those who are temporarily limited in their ability to attend church: Bruce Morecraft, Phil Sloane, and Janet Keller.

Hear my petitions, O Heavenly Father, for the sake of Your Son, who has taught your adopted children to pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven…”

Heavenly Father with the return of our Lord Jesus, grant us steadfast faith, that—with them—we may come to the joys of eternal bliss; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.  Amen.
